An icon of 20th century architecture
It's a museum of art
in the United States, created
by a philanthropist
and collector
Solomon
Guggenheim.
Heim.
Located
in Manhattan
in the museum mile.

It's one of the oldest
and most visited
contemporary art collection
in the world.
Guggenheim created a special fund to support contemporary art. Earlier, the millionaire began to collect a collection of paintings by famous masters of painting.
But there was no suitable place for their exhibition. So it was decided to build a museum.
The Baroness, who manages the patron’s collection, suggested that architect Frank Wright create an unusual building to store the unique treasures. He decided that works of modern art would be organically complemented by the mobility and changeability of the spiral-shaped building.
The museum opened, but Guggenheim himself and architect Wright did not live to see it. Thanks to F. Wright's design, the museum immediately caused a furor.
Some artists refused to exhibit in it because the building seemed very strange to them. Today, it is hard to imagine a more popular place to display contemporary art.
To create huge but weightless reinforced concrete structures, engineers had to use many of the latest, incredible inventions. Not all specialists were able to work with the project of the architect, who was even called crazy.

Placed in a separate hall. Strangely twisted sheets of weatherproof steel creating bizarre corridors express the author’s attitude to the variability of time limits.
He started it a week after the TV star's suicide, using silk-screen printing, for which critics wrote many unflattering reviews.

Time has put everything in its place. The critics have long been forgotten, and tour groups are still reaching for the masterpiece.
It consists of 102 canvases. They are sponge-painted with silhouettes of real objects.

Architecture of the large atrium
The idea is borrowed from Bramante's staircase from the Vatican Museum.
Opponents of the new project
Some artists of the time did not like the architecture of the museum. They refused to exhibit in the museum, explaining that the architecture would distract visitors from their works.
The perfect location
Manhattan
One of the conditions of the project was to locate the building in the city center and near a forest area. The location was chosen perfectly - opposite the central park, in the very center of the city.
The tour and the exhibits start from the top floor. The guests are taken up by an elevator, and they descend down the ramp on their own, admiring the paintings.
